A lovely collection of interesting patterns By S. Rosner This is a beautiful book! The designs range from basic classic silhouettes to more innovative styles and include both accessories and full garments. The instructions are clear, with detailed schematics. Beyond the patterns, the photography and graphics are gorgeous. The hadcover binding lays flat, so it’s easy to work from this book. Unlike most yarn companies, whose pattern books are planned to last only one season, Alchemy has produced a book you’ll return to again and again.

Disappointing… By Laurie Kramer The fact that the book lays open flat is great, the pictures are lovely, the colors are eye catching, the yarns are gorgeous!
This book focuses on three of Alchemy’s yarns – Silken Straw (100% Silk floss), Haiku (40% Silk 60% Mohair) and Silk Purse (100% Silk single), all of which are very attractive and tactilly appealing to work with.
I had seen one pattern (Muse) that I REALLY wanted, and I justified the purchase by assuming that there would be other patterns that I would like to knit up as well, based soley on the pattern I had seen and the yarns they were focusing on.
When I received the book I was fairly disappointed to find that out of 77 pages and 20 patterns, only four patterns(including Muse) even worth my consideration (1 cardigan, 1 tank, 1 scarf & 1 lacy wrap). In all there were 3 scarves, 3 pullovers, 2 tank/camisoles, 4 wraps, 1 purse, 2 ties (1 standard & 1 ascot), 3 cardigans, 1 kercheif, and 1 shrug.
Only 1 tank/camisole and 1 cardigan (Muse) had ANY shaping what so ever, everything else was very unflattering in straight box styles.
This book COULD have been AMAZING, but sadly fell very flat.
I will knit up the pattern for which I purchased the book, and will call it a *relatively* inexpensive lesson…
